About The River School
Founded in 1999, The River School fosters children’s growth in creative thought, social cognition, independence, interaction and engagement, and problem-solving in a nurturing and developmentally-appropriate environment for children 18 months through Grade 3. Class sizes range from 8 to 16 children.
The River School’s unique teaching model pairs a master’s level educator with a speech language pathologist in each classroom and the curriculum has a special focus on early language, literacy, and social development.
The River School’s 10-month educational program emphasizes experiential and collaborative learning and uses thematic curriculum to integrate drama, music, visual arts, physical education, science, and literacy into the classroom, and as “specials” classes during the week.
The River School is located in northwest Washington DC, west of Georgetown and is convenient to the Maryland and Virginia suburbs. MacArthur Boulevard offers the advantages of a neighborhood setting along with a public library, stores, and parks.
The admission process includes a parent tour, applicant play visit, submission of school transcripts, school reports, and a teacher recommendation, when applicable. Testing is required for children who are four years of age and older. Application details are available here.
For more information and to schedule a tour, email the Admission Office or call 202-337-3554 or 866-596-8929.
