The River School

About The River School

The River School fosters children’s growth in creative thought, social cognition, independence, interaction and engagement, and problem-solving in a nurturing and developmentally-appropriate environment for children 18 months through Grade 3.

The River School’s unique teaching model pairs a master’s level educator with a speech language pathologist in each classroom and the curriculum has a special focus on early language, literacy, and social development.

Our 10-month educational program emphasizes experiential and collaborative learning and uses thematic curriculum to integrate drama, music, visual arts, physical education, yoga science, and literacy into the classroom and during specialized classes.

The admission process includes a parent tour, applicant play visit, submission of school transcripts, school reports, and a teacher recommendation, when applicable. Testing is required for children who are four years of age and older. Application details are available here.

For more information and to schedule a tour, email the Admission Office or call 202-337-3554 or 866-596-8929.

The River School does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religious affiliation, gender, ethnic or national origin in the administration of its admission, financial aid and other school-administered programs.
