In Memoriam: Jill Bailey Chenet
July 27, 2012
Jill Bailey Chenet, our valued and beloved long time 2nd grade teacher, passed away Wednesday night as a result of a drowning incident while on vacation with her husband, Matt, in the Outer Banks.
I know you share with us a profound sense of loss. Words cannot fully express our grief. Jill dedicated her career to her students, bringing them to their fullest potential with joy and a sense of wonder that was palpable in her classroom daily. Her commitment and her gifts as a teacher reflect a profound understanding of the children she loved. A March 2012 Washington & Lee Alumni Perspective provides an insight into her dedication to teaching.
Our prayers and our hearts go out to Matt, and to the Bailey and Chenet families.
We have set up a River School Blog to enable the sharing of information in one online location. We have also established an Online Tribute Page for Jill and you are welcome to share your thoughts and tributes there.
With the guidance of Jill's family, the school has established The Jill Bailey Chenet Scholarship Fund in memory of Jill. Should you wish to make a gift to the Fund as a tribute to Jill, you may do so through our Online Giving Page. You may also mail your gift directly to the school at 4880 MacArthur Blvd NW, Washington, DC 20007.
We are focused on other ways to honor Jill's remarkable memory as a community. We will have a community gathering in memory of Jill at The River School after the start of the school year.
