School Closing and Delay
Due to snow, ice, or conditions such as power outages or city-wide emergencies, administrators may decide to close school, delay school opening, or dismiss students early.
In the event of a school closure or delayed school opening:
- The decision to close or delay will be made by 6:15 am.
- To learn of The River School's decision:
- Call The River School directly anytime after 6:15 am at 202-337-3554 to hear a recorded message announcing delays and closings.
- Check the home page of the school website
- Listen to WTOP radio stations: 103.5 FM, 103.9 FM, 107.7 FM or www.wtop.com (click weather; then closings & delays)

You will receive a call from The River School if it becomes necessary to close school early due to an emergency or weather-related situation. We will activate the emergency procedure outlined on the Student Emergency Forms in order to reach you. Parents or their designees will be expected to pick up their child as soon as they are able to reach the school.
